Patient & Public Involvement

Patient & Public Involvement

Patient & Public Involvement (PPI) at St John of God Research Foundation

Patient & Public Involvement (PPI) means working in equal partnership with people who have lived experience. Research is carried out ‘with’ or ‘by’ them to reflect what matters most to those impacted by it.

How does it work?

Patients and members of the public can be involved in research in many ways, for example by:

  • Deciding what to research: Helping choose the topics and questions
  • Planning the research: Collaboration on study design, information sheets, or surveys
  • Advising the research team: Joining advisory or steering groups to guide research
  • Share the findings: Explaining and spreading the research results so findings reach the right people

This involvement can happen at any stage of a research project.
